Luminous Interlude
Luminous Interlude
Date of exhibition: 2025 16 Apr.~2025 14 Jul.

About the Exhibition
Artist Wendy Hsieh has mastered the art of using light as a brush to deconstruct time and space. Through her lens, she creates a visually mesmerizing fugue in the improvisational theater of photography, turning moments into poetry.
Swiftism, a photographic philosophy initiated by Yung-Chien Lew, a fellow at the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, represents an expression of improvisational fantasy. Whether it’s the fluid strokes reminiscent of calligraphy, the subtle interplay of light and shadow, or the vibrant rhythms that reflect inner emotions, Swiftism offers a unique interpretation of both figurative and abstract concepts. It is “to see the world through the eyes of a lover, to capture creativity with the eyes of a dream, and to express thoughts with the soul of poetry”, grounding itself in aesthetics and philosophy. In the midst of spontaneous expression, there is always a contemplation of how to maintain the integrity of the artistic concept.
Wendy Hsieh’s creative process is deeply rooted in the philosophy of “a mirror with no object within”, allowing her photographs to reflect the scenes before her while capturing the fleeting moments of inspiration and emotion that touch the heart. She seeks a vibrant, evolving process rather than a static documentary reflection.
This exhibition features four series, with a total of twenty-one works, breaking the passive nature of viewing and showcasing the emotional depth of each piece. The creative themes explored in the series include:
1.Momentary Light:
A dynamic fusion of free-flowing imagery, calligraphy, and painting brushwork, combined with the randomness of light and shadow, transforming abstract forms into a visual language.
2.Mirror of the Heart:
The poetic gaze of Swiftism, with “The Moment is Eternity” at its core, highlighting the sudden, fleeting transformations that define frozen moments.
3.Mirrored Fantasy:
A non-documentary optical monologue that prioritizes subjective interpretation over objective record-keeping in contemporary art.
4.Light and Shadow Painting:
Emphasizing the improvisational fugue of photography, this series resonates with the mirror-like structure of the heart and the musicality of a fantasy, serving as the source of inspiration.
