About the Exhibition

If the existence of extraterrestrials is possible, why shouldn’t animals and everyday objects take on human qualities as well?

Monstopia was born from the artist’s imaginative inner world inspired by daily life with her beloved cats. Existing between reality and fantasy, cats are no longer merely cats, rabbits become more than rabbits, and Bear transforms into the whimsical character known as the Munyao Bear. Here, everyday emotions and playful imagination expand beyond their ordinary forms, intertwining into a vibrant and organic miniature forest of Monstopia.

Within this fantastical forest, imagination takes on lively physical forms, while the boundaries of reality quietly dissolve. Through anthropomorphic characters and a playful sense of storytelling, Theresa invites visitors to cross familiar borders and embark on a visual journey filled with wonder and surprise.

Also featured exclusively in this exhibition is a new work inspired by Bobby, the hotel’s mascot. Hidden among clusters of hydrangeas that resemble gatherings of tiny stars, the Munyao characters play a whimsical game of hide-and-seek, inviting visitors into a world of curiosity, imagination, and delight.

Creative Concept

Clay is more than a medium for vessels and flower containers—it is also a vessel for boundless imagination. Inspired by life with her cats, the artist has gradually developed her own cast of whimsical Monyao characters: Tree Monyao, Chair Monsters, the Monyao creatures, and an assortment of delightfully eccentric beings.

Moving freely between reality and fantasy, these characters have slowly shaped an ever-growing and increasingly vibrant realm of Monstopia. Through clay, colour, and storytelling, ordinary moments are reimagined, while imagination is given the freedom to grow without limits.

About the Artist – Theresa H.

Theresa draws inspiration from the whimsical ideas that emerge through everyday life with her cats.

In her creative world, animals, plants, and ordinary objects are never quite what they seem. Cats become curious characters, trees develop distinctive personalities, and even an ordinary chair may transform into a playful creature. Together, they inhabit Monstopia—a miniature fantasy forest populated by Monyao creatures, Tree Monyaos, Chair Monsters, and a host of imaginative beings.

Working with clay allows Theresa to give tangible form to these fleeting moments of imagination. Through colour, expressive characters, and gentle humour, she invites viewers into a world where curiosity thrives and where the small wonders hidden within everyday life can be rediscovered.

Theresa began exploring ceramics in 2016. Her practice encompasses both functional tableware and sculptural ceramic figures, reflecting her fascination with the warmth of clay and the beauty of glazes. Through art markets, exhibitions, and ongoing creative projects, she continues to expand the world of Monstopia, gradually shaping a unique universe born from imagination and everyday observations.
